At what age should my child get his first exam?
At a minimum we recommend a comprehensive exam by age 3. However, an exam as early as six months is indicated for infants in high risk conditions, including: premature infants, those with a family history of Amblyopia(lazy eye), those with birth defects, or those with a noted crossing or turning out of the eyes. |
How can my child be tested if he/she doesn't know their letters?
We have numerous ways of checking for visual acuity including numbers, picture charts, directional pointing figures, many that don't even require a verbal response from your child. Even if your child is non responsive, most findings during their exam are obtained objectively, such as binocularity, prescription, and eye health.

Do you perform LASIK?
Optometrists are not licensed to perform Lasik. However, we perform all pre-operative and post-operative care for your LASIK procedure. Most LASIK centers have a one price "all inclusive" fee, whether the whole process is performed at their facility or if you choose to have your own eye doctor perform the co-management. In fact, many LASIK centers prefer we do the pre-op consultation, so we can advise you on when to discontinue contact lens wear, risks and benefits, and whether you are even a good candidate prior to seeing the surgeon.

What is a "contact lens fitting"?
All new contact lens patients are charged a fitting fee in addition to their normal exam charge. This fee covers the measurements needed to fit the contact, the teaching of insertion and removal of the lens, and any necessary follow up visits within six months of the fit. All patients are at least required to have a one week contact lens check to verify the fit of the lens prior to ordering. Existing contact wearers are typically charged a contact lens evaluation fee to renew their contact lens prescription, as this requires additional testing on our part.
